Results from Tilleda Thunder on Lake Speed

As light snow covered the racing surface, 35 cars entered the pit area to battle on the ice oval on Lake Speed. Clint Forstner claimed his first feature win of the year, while Paul Habeck, Mike Schmidt, and Mike Asenbrener made return celebrations in victory lane.

The opening feature of the day was the front wheel drive studded class. Though there was not much passing in the race, the front three cars were never seperated by more than a few car lengths. Paul Habeck led the race from start to finish to pick up his second win on the year. Rick Habeck (Paul’s older brother) was able to hold off Dillon Kralovetz for the second spot. Kralovetz pulled alongside Habeck numerous times in the battle for second, but he had to settle for third spot. Paul Habeck was also able to win the heat race.

The rear wheel drive nonstudded feature rolled out of the lineup chute next. Andrea Olson moved from her outside front row starting spot into the lead on lap one. She was quickly pursued out front by Mel Westphal, Travis Verg, and Clint Forstner. On the fifth lap of the race, Forstner wrestled the lead away from Olson. Forstner built himself up nearly a straightaway lead in just a few laps. Dan Michonski, who had started at the tail of the field, worked around Westphal and Tony Wudstrack to move into second place. Forstner was able to guide his car through lapped traffic like a deer through a forest, en route to his first win of the season. Michonski cruised to second, with Wudstrack third. Michonski and Wudstrack picked up the heat race wins.

Mike Schmidt returned to victory lane in the rear wheel drive studded class, it was the second feature win of the year for Schmidt. Schmidt was challenged early on by Greg Gutt, before Gutt retired due to mechanical gremlins. Pugs Wildenberg ended up in the second spot. Rocky T. Spencer finished third. Schmidt also won the heat race.

The front wheel drive nonstudded feature was led in the earlty going by Daryl Erickson. Erickson handed the lead to Mike Asenbrener on lap three. Asenbrener was untouchable for the duration of the race on his way to his second win of the season. Greg Gutt took second, one spot better than Nate Michonski. Gutt and Michael Baumler won the heat races.
